Second Norway : Svitjod

z11

Svitjod is an Old Norse name that probably refers to a part of the modern Swedish geography. The name consists of two parts. Svi- means Swedes and -tjod means people. However, it does not agree with the present Swedes completely. In the 1100s, at least three tribes lived in Sweden. They were Svear(Swede),Götar(Geats) amd Gutar(Gotlander).
